Today I started out my new proposal and for today I took a picture of this little perfume dipper thing with my Canon EOS M50 and my iPhone XS Max. I definitely noticed some difference and honestly I wasn't expecting to see that much of a difference. I always thought that my phone camera was pretty good, but compared to the Canon photos, there are definitely some flaws that I found.
So without further ado, here are a few of my side by side comparrisons that I did:
Canon EOS M50
1/250, F6.3, 0 light change, ISO 1600
iPhone XS Max
1/60, F1.8, 0 light change, ISO 100
There is an abviouse difference between the two photos, and it really shows the difference in the two cameras. The photo from the Canon was taken on auto mode but as you can tell it did a better job balancing the colors. The right photo was also taken on the phone, and it seems like the only option is just auto. I haven't really found a way to adjust the settings from the camera app, but I haven't looked into it too much either, so that will be a part of this proposal too probably.
The set up between these two photos is eactly the same. I had a light shining as you can obviously tell, but I didn't move the little dapper thing or the light set up between the two. The only difference would be placement of the camera and how close I am to the object. But because I can't use a tripod really, it will obviously be a little different placement.
I personally prefer the Canon picture because I really enjoy how the lighting and clarity is. The iPhone picture just seem really white and over exposed. It also is not saturated really at all. I think when there is no toggling with the settings, the phone just takes the picture as it sees it, whereas the camera adjusts accordingly. The other thing that I found between the two is the yellow cast that the phone creats versus the whiter/clear one of the camera. Between these two photos so far I think I deffinitly like the Canon side better.
1/800, F11, -3 light change, ISO 1600
1/640, F10, -3 light change, ISO 1600
1/155, F1.8, -2.05 light change, ISO 25
1/120, F1.8, -1.73 light change, ISO 64
For this round I hide my camera on P so I would be able to mess around with the settings more. The phone was just on the normal mode but for these I changed the brightness to get the shadows and such that I liked. I still noticed that the phone camera still carries a yellow cast even when the brightness of the photo is low. I should also mention that the light I was using did not cast the yellow hue. It was a very bright white LED light. I believe it was called "Daylight" or something, but it definitely wasn't one of those light bulbs that are yellowish.
These are from the second set of photos that I did where I focused more on what I liked versus what the camera could do. Personally, I've been really into dark/deep shadowed photos which is why all of these are so dark. Here, there is obviously a difference between the two cameras, but I like photos/aspects from each of the two sides.I don't mind the yellow as much however, because I think the darkness takes away from it a bit but I do feel like it's something I should point out. In these two photos I feel like it gives off a vintage feel if that makes sense in any way. I do really enjoy the Canon side because I just love how the light catches in the glass but for this I don't think my preference between the two is as strong as before.
