Because the photo prompt was "Breakfast", I decided to use that as the idea of what I wanted to photograph today! It is the first day of doing my new food photography proposal, and so far I am enjoying it.

Today I used two lenses, the regular one that my camera came with, and a macro lens that I just got for Christmas. The macro lense is amazing and I definitely hope to use it more in the future.

I used the same prop for the whole shoot, but I changed it up and added to it as I felt necessary. Because with proposal I believe I will be taking quite a few photos each day. I will include a gallery view of them all, but only show a select few in large size that I like the best.

Today I took some pictures of skittles because we had some and I thought that they could make a cool subject to shoot. Just taking a picture of one is boring, but all together it they can make something pretty. I did a couple different angles and positions, and even used two different lenses, and overall I'm fairly happy with how today went.

I used a marble countertop to shoot on instead of having my black or white background, so that was a little different but I think it helped add some needed dimension into the photos.

I took pictures of cucumbers today, and even though this was one that i was somewhat excited about, I don't really like very many of the pictures that I took. I'm not really sure why, but I guess it's probably because you can't really do much with slices of cucumbers without it being repetivive. I took a whole bunch of photos, but there were not very many that I like or am happy about.
I cut them into different sized slivers and used both a marble background and a black one. I'm not sure if this is one that I will want to do again, like to see if I can do it better, or if I'll just do new subjects after this.

Today I look pictures of cheeto like things because I saw them and thought that their bright orange color could make cool photographs. In a lot of the photos I lowered the brightness on the camera, and I think it totally made the orange of the cheese pop. I also used two backgrounds, one black and one white, and I think both worked out pretty well. The black one helped the color pop and it looks more natural when I lowered the brightness, but the white one made it look more like a real photo ad for the cheese puffs.

I also tried a new technique that was inspired by the coffee picture in the agenda. I tried to get some action like shots where I had some of the puffs falling into the larger pile. It kind of worked and it was super fun but I think if I had tried it for longer I could get better pictures.

For today, I took pictures of popcorn. I had to make it already because we give it to my chickens to eat, so I figured it could be the subject of today's photoshoot. I would say it worked as a good subject, and because of the texture that the kernel makes when it popped, I was able to get some cool macro shots.

Last time I tried to get some cool action shots but only a few worked, so I wanted to try it again on this photoshoot. There were a few photos that came out pretty well, but I think if I were to do it again, I would try to get better lighting and try to do the action shots again.

Today I look pictures of an orange. My dad and I had actually just gotten them and they are super juciy and vibrant so I thought they might make some good pictures. I opted to cut the orange rather than peel and segment it. I do like the way it turned out but I think the problem was I cut the slices too big so I didn't have much of an array. I got some cool macro shots though so overall I'm pretty okay with how things turned out.

Kind of like last class I took pictures of another fruit, but this time it was an apple. I didn't end up cutting into the apple but I still think the pictures turned out okay. I might take some more pictures but next time with it cut open but I'm not sure yet. This particular photo shoot though, I wanted to focus of the redness of the apple against the darkness of my backdrop. I also sprayed it with water to try and give it the beaded water droplet look.

I took some pictures of ceral today and I even tried something I might not have otherwise done. I made a spill to try and get some diffferent angles and different types of pictures. The cheerios were stale so nobody would have eaten them otherwise. It wasn't an accidental spill do there wasn't as much spatter as there might have been which was nice for clean up but at the same time I feel like maybe it looked staged. A lot of things are staged so that is obviously not at bad thing, but either way some of the pictures came out prety good.

My dad sometimes gets these apple strudels from Costco, and the last time he went he got them so I thought they might make some good photos. I'm not really sure if an apple strudel is supposed to have layers in the pastry or not, but this one kind of did. They were a little bit soggy looking because they hadn't been heated up, but I think that for the most part they were pretty apparent. I also was able to capture some of the sugsr grains with my macro lense, which I thought was pretty neat seeming.

Today I took pictures of scrambled eggs. Originally though, I was trying for more of a sunny side up egg. I don’t particularly enjoy eating sunny side up eggs though, so it didn’t really work out very well. I tried twice today but I think maybe my house is uneven or something like that because it just kept not working. My chickens are starting to lay again so while we aren’t in an egg shortage or anything, I still didn’t want to waste the eggs. I also didn’t want to eat more than two, which is why I gave up and scrambled them. I tried to make them pretty by adding green onions and sprinkling generously with pepper, but at the end of the day its just beaten and cooked eggs so I don’t know how pretty it can really look. I will try again next class to make a pretty sunny side up one, because I have a new idea on a mold that may give me some aid.

Today I did actually reattempt to make a sunny side up egg, but I guess I just cannot make them because yet again it didn't really work. I tried making a tin foil mold to keep the egg in place, but it leaked out the sides and then when I cut it away the egg the was left was weirdly thick. So yeah, it didn't work and I kind of just gave up and took pictures of a tangerine. It was actually one and a half tangerines but either way I like how the photos came out — even if it wasn't a sunny side up egg.
